Job Title: Program Integrity Manager Division: Best Aquaculture Practices Department: Program Integrity

Reports to: CFO/COO

Job Location: GAA/BAP headquarters, Portsmouth, New Hampshire


Summary: Responsible for managing all operations underpinning the integrity of the BAP program, an international standards and certification program for the responsible production of safe, farmed seafood. This involves:

  • Managing interactions with certification bodies, accreditation bodies, benchmarking bodies, and associated GAA staff.
  • Reviewing audit summaries; reviewing the performance of certification bodies and auditors.
  • Oversight of auditor training and record keeping; internal management reviews and supervision of record keeping
  • Delivering new projects as required to enhance BAP program Integrity.
  • Evaluating emerging risks to the BAP program and propose actions.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Ensures integrity of BAP Program through many different avenues and levels such as: the program compliance, internal control, technical reviews, understanding standard interpretation, consistent reviewing of nonconformity’s, working with BAP accreditation bodies, logo policing, antibiotic testing, managing unannounced and surveillance audits.
  2. Communicating with certification bodies, facilities, and BAP staff regarding program integrity compliance issues and sanctions
  3. Reviewing non-conformities and other summary statistics from audit reports.
  4. Performance monitoring of auditors and certification bodies via KPIs.
  5. Evaluating and training auditors on BAP standards
  6. Conducting and coordinating on-site and desk-top integrity audits
  7. Selecting, directing, or training others to assist in integrity audits as needed.
  8. Monitoring summary regulatory detention/refusal data for BAP Facilities.
  9. Reviewing facility compliance issues and granting variances if appropriate.
  10. Assisting in the review of new standards as needed, and in the development and updating of interpretation guidelines to standards, to ensure auditability.
  11. Works closely with Standards Oversight Committee (SOC).
  12. Supervising and maintaining systematic record keeping.
  13. 13.   Managing compliance with external benchmarks, notably Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) and Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP).
  14. Updating existing Program Integrity policy and procedural documents.
  15. Managing the process of, and applying criteria for, the competency and approval of new certification bodies.
  16. Will involve frequent traveling.


  Supervisory Responsibilities:

Managing several specialist positions within the Program Integrity Department. Working closely on a daily basis with other department heads.



Minimum bachelor's degree (BA) from college or university; and five years related experience in the seafood, auditing, certification or seafood arenas or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Food safety expertise/experience and qualifications a definite advantage.
