Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Seafood /Protein Purchaser to manage the sourcing and purchasing of high-quality seafood and other protein products for our organization. This position will oversee 2 fully operational distribution centers as well, purchase raw materials for a poultry further processing room. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the protein market, supplier relationships, and inventory management. This role requires effective communication and negotiation skills to ensure timely and cost-efficient procurement while maintaining product quality and supply chain consistency. Key Responsibilities:
Procurement Management:
Source and purchase seafood, chicken, beef, pork, and other protein products in alignment with company needs.
Evaluate and select suppliers based on price, quality, and reliability.
Manage ongoing relationships with existing vendors and establish new supplier partnerships. Introduce potential new items and vendors to our sales team.
Negotiate contracts, prices, and delivery schedules to ensure favorable terms and conditions.
Work closely with our VP of Sales to coordinate purchasing and sales based on changing customer menu need.
Inventory Control:
Monitor inventory levels to ensure an adequate supply of proteins, reducing both shortages and overstock situations.
Work closely with the warehouse team to ensure proper storage, handling, and rotation of inventory.
Maintain records of all procurement activities, including purchase orders, contracts, and receipts.
Market Research & Trend Analysis:
Stay updated on trends in the protein markets, including price fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and emerging product options.
Conduct market research to identify new suppliers or products that could benefit the business.
Assess and forecast demand to plan for seasonal changes or market shifts.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure all protein products meet company quality standards, including freshness, packaging, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
Monitor the quality of products received and coordinate with vendors for resolution of any quality issues.
Cost Management:
Work within budgetary constraints while striving to achieve cost savings on procurement.
Track and report on spending to identify areas where improvements can be made.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in supply chain or any relevant field, experience accepted in lieu of academic qualification
Proven experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in the food industry.
Knowledge of protein products, including quality standards, sourcing, and pricing.
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with inventory management software and databases.
Understanding of food safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry products up to 50lbs.
Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
